Yesterday, Teachers from the Yorkton and surrounding area held a rally in Yorkton in protest for change.
It was the second one-day strike in as many weeks as negotiations with the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation and the provincial government hit a snag back in October.
The main sticking points with the STF are the amount of students in each class and the lack of support for the students in need.
Vice Principal of M.C Knoll in Yorkton Julie Parisloff spoke about fighting for students.
“We hope to get better support for our students,” said Parisloff. “We don’t want to be out here; we want to be in the classroom, but at the same time, we know the students aren’t getting what they need,” added Parisloff.
While the teachers across the province want the government to return to the bargaining table, the Minister of Education, Jeremy Cockrill, stated that the government won’t negotiate on those issues and that those are conversations for school boards, not the union.
