Chronic Wasting Disease continues to be an issue in Manitoba.
CWD is an incurable, fatal disease that affects members of the deer family, and if the disease becomes endemic in Manitoba, it could threaten all cervid populations in the province.
Since 2021, the province has reported 20 positive cases of CWD, with 18 detected in mule deer and two in white-tailed deer.
CWD is not known as a human health risk, but meat from a CWD-infected animal is not recommended for consumption.
