SGI is reporting the lowest number of impaired driving injuries and fatalities on record from last year.
Saskatchewan recorded 21 deaths from impaired driving in 2019, down from 43 in 2018, and 332 injuries, an improvement from 360 in 2018.
Minister responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave says he’s noticed a greater effort from the public in the last couple years to help bring the numbers down.
“The people of Saskatchewan have been listening,” Hargrave stated. “We’re gonna stay on track this year. We keep hammering it out there ‘Don’t drive impaired’, ‘Don’t drive impaired by drugs or alcohol’ and ‘Be a good wingman’”
The annual average for impaired driving deaths in Saskatchewan between 2009 to 2018 was 54, while the average for injuries is at 595 over the last decade.
