The first COVID-19 vaccines in Manitoba are set to be issued tomorrow morning (Wed).
900 doses of the vaccine will be administered for high-risk health care workers.
“As we round out 2020 and look ahead to a new year, there is hope in the window for a safer and healthier future,” Pallister said. “Tomorrow, 9 months after our first positive COVID case here in Manitoba, we will begin to deliver the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.”
The vaccine will be administered between tomorrow (Wed) and Friday, and each appointment is expected to take 45 minutes.
The first immunization clinic will launch tomorrow morning at the University of Manitoba’s Rady Faculty of Health Sciences on Bannatyne campus adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg.
In a news release, the province says the site was chosen “because it has the capacity to safely store the Pfizer vaccine, which must be kept at ultra-low temperatures and could not be moved after it was delivered.”
The province also says “all of the individuals immunized at the first clinic will receive their second dose at a clinic to be established at the province’s first ‘super-site’ for vaccine storage, administration and logistics at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg.”
Additional vaccination clinics will be established in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Steinbach, Gimli, Portage la Prairie, and The Pas.
