Saskatchewan municipalities want a piece of the Cannabis action.
The President of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association feels the province should be sharing its cut from the Cannabis Excise Tax.
Gordon Barnhart points out the province’s share increased from 50-to-75-percent in the 2018 budget and it was hoped municipalities would get the extra 25-percent.
He says it doesn’t matter that cannabis tax revenue is lower than expected, the fact remains municipalities are picking up policing and licensing costs.
Barnhart says municipalities appreciate the revenue sharing arrangement with the province but believe they should get a share of the Cannabis Excise Tax like municipalities in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.
