Okay, confession time: I just watched Good Will Hunting for the first time. I know, I know—how did it take me this long? It’s been sitting in my watchlist forever, and it always pops up on those “greatest movies of all time” lists, even my mom has it on DVD, so I figured it was about time I gave it a go.
I went in pretty much blind, besides knowing the famous “how do you like them apples?” line. Sure, I knew Matt Damon and Ben Affleck starred in it, but I had no idea they actually wrote the script themselves! And won an Oscar for it too! That’s so impressive, especially considering how young they were.
And then there’s Robin Williams. I had no clue he was even in this movie, and wow, I miss him so much. While he’s legendary for his comedy, he’s just as incredible in serious roles. Watching him in Good Will Hunting made me remember just how talented and heartfelt he really was. His performance totally deserved that Oscar.
Overall, I’m glad I finally watched this classic. I’m not sure it’s the kind of movie I’ll rewatch a ton, but the story was so interesting, and the acting was top-notch. It definitely lived up to the hype, even if it took me a while to get around to it.
One last thing though, *SPOILERS* when Will finally gets to California, I really hope he gives Skylar the world’s biggest apology. Seriously, that girl deserves him on his knees, begging for forgiveness. I get it, Will was working through his issues, but he really put her through a lot. If I were her, it would take some serious groveling before I’d take him back!
