While average asking rents across Canada have fallen for the tenth consecutive month, Saskatchewan continues to buck the trend with the largest annual gain in the country, according to the latest Rentals.ca rent report.
Rents in Canada averaged $2,121 in July, down 3.6 per cent from a year ago — with sustained declines across most provinces.
However, Saskatchewan recorded an annual increase of four per cent for apartment and condo rents, rising to an average of $1,384, the most significant growth among all provinces.
At the same time, this average remains about 34 per cent below the national average.
Saskatchewan’s rent growth (three-year increase of 32 per cent) was followed by Alberta (27.4 per cent) and Manitoba (21.8 per cent), further highlighting a trend seen across the Prairie provinces.
Despite growth, Saskatchewan remains one of the most affordable rental markets in the country. The province’s average rent continues to be well below more expensive regions such as B.C. and Ontario.
