The Swan Valley Stampeders kicked off their MJHL preseason in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night, edging the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4–3 in overtime.
Jacob Boekelder buried the winner to secure the victory.
Lucas Newman opened the scoring in the first, finishing a setup from Cole Lobreau. In the second, Miguel Van Den Driessche struck on a 5-on-3 powerplay, before Dayson Martin made it 3–1 late in the frame.
Waywayseecappo battled back with three goals of their own—two in the final minutes—to force extra time. But the Stampeders regrouped, and Boekelder delivered the knockout blow in OT.
Goaltenders Eddy Person and Samuel Bastien combined for 33 saves on 36 shots in the win.
The Stamps and Wolverines will renew their rivalry Friday in Waywayseecappo.
