NORQUAY — The Norquay School underwent numerous staffing changes this season, welcoming five new teachers and three interns to the new school year on Sept. 2.
Lucas Chaban is the new Grade 8 teacher, Shae Peterson will be teaching Grade 9, Rebecca Baker is the Grade 2/3 teacher, Wendy Janga-Clark is the new librarian, and Faith Kolach is the Grade 2 teacher. Interns include Rhiannon McClelland, Kylie Babiuk and Hope Dennis.
Chaban is originally from Yorkton, attained his Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan, and previously taught Grades 8 and 9 science in Warman. He is looking forward to being involved in Grades 5 and 6 volleyball and badminton.
Peterson is originally from Sturgis and earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan. He completed his internship in Canora and will be teaching Grades 7, 8 and 9 health. He will also help with the junior and senior golf, curling and SRC programs.
Baker is from Manitoba, where she attended the University of Manitoba and received a Bachelor of Education. She will be teaching Grades 2/3 English language arts, math, science, social studies, health and arts.
Kolach comes from Wadena and will be teaching Grade 2 and Psych 20. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a biology degree.
Janga-Clark is the new librarian and comes from Alexander, Man., where she previously worked as an administrative assistant.
The three new interns are Kylie Babiuk, who is a student teacher under the direction of Evan Rostotski. She graduated from Sturgis Composite High School and will be helping with Pre-Kindergarten phys-ed and Wellness 10 classes.
McClelland is from Nipawin and is the Grade 1 intern. She will be helping with the SRC, Family Engagement Night, and Grade 5 and 6 volleyball.
Dennis is from Hudson Bay and is the Pre-K and Kindergarten intern. She wants to be involved in the volleyball program and Family Night at the school.
“New this year at the school is bathroom renovations, three new bathrooms for the elementary side, two for the high school, and the staff bathroom also underwent renovations,” said Audrey Severson, principal. “We also received six new ceiling fans, and the gym floor was refinished. We also want to welcome back Pre-K which were incorporated into the school a few years ago. Projected enrolment is approximately 288 students for this year.”
