INVERMAY – With her international teaching experience, Robin Fitch has joined the staff at Invermay School for the 2025/26 school year.
After earning her Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education at the University of Regina in 2016, Fitch taught Grade 2 in Punnichy for one year and also did a considerable amount of substitute teaching around her hometown of Wadena.
“In 2019, I joined the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme and went to Oita, Japan to teach English,” she said. “I taught students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 and I also helped coach students who were in English speech competitions. I returned to Canada in 2023. After I returned, I taught Grades 3 to 6 in Invermay during a teacher's maternity leave.”
As part of the Invermay School staff, Fitch will be teaching middle years students in ELA, PAA, and Career Ed.
“I think my favourite part of being a teacher is getting to know the students and helping them succeed. Seeing them light up when they understand a question and being able to see how far they come is wonderful! I hope they continue to grow and are proud of themselves for everything they have done.”
Growing up in Wadena, Fitch’s main interests as a youngster were karate, reading, and art.
“When I was little, I always said I would either be a teacher or a veterinarian. I liked helping others and learning new things. In high school, I decided I would go for an Education degree.”
Outside of classroom teaching, she is also helping out with cross country and other clubs at school.
On her days off, Fitch continues to look for ways to broaden her horizons.
“I like to read books, write stories, and draw. I am a very artistic person. I also practice Japanese so that I can one day take the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).”
