There are moments that remind you just how special a place is — and this morning was one of them. The northern lights danced across the sky in a way that felt almost unreal. Greens, purples, and soft hints of red flickered above the horizon as if the sky itself had come alive. It was one of those quiet Saskatchewan mornings where nature steals the show without warning.
I stood there for a moment before heading to work, caught between awe and obligation. Part of me wishes I had taken a drive out of Yorkton, away from the city lights, to get a better view. But life doesn’t always make room for detours — not even for auroras.
Still, even that brief glimpse reminded me why I love living here. The prairies have this way of grounding you. It’s not just the open spaces or the big skies (though those help) — it’s the way nature humbles you without saying a word. One minute you’re rushing through your morning routine, and the next, you’re looking up at something ancient and beautiful, realizing just how small — and lucky — you are.
We really do live in the land of living skies. And mornings like this are why I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
