YORKTON — Two long time volunteers were recognized by the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society at the recent Brick Mill Heritage Dinner.
A framed art piece depicting the mill was presented to Gladys Krepakevich on behalf of herself and the late Gene Krepakevich for their contributions to the Mill Society.
Society spokesperson Larry Pearen noted Gene Krepakevich was deeply dedicated to the mill project.
“His passion for preserving Yorkton’s history inspired others,” said Pearen, adding “he brought steady support and encouragement during early days of the restoration, helping lay the foundation for what we see today.”
Gladys too has been a tireless worker in terms of restoring and expanding the mill.
“Gladys is one of the first to volunteer for every project, never turning down a task — big or small,” said Pearen, who noted she has been a tireless worker: bell ringer, pancake flipper, ticket seller, baker, decorator, fundraiser maker of a famous puff wheat cake.
“Together, Gene and Gladys demonstrated the spirit of community service,” said Pearen. “Their contributions went beyond tasks — they inspired others by their commitment, teamwork, and positive example. Their names are now forever linked with the preservation of this historic flour mill.”
