KAMSACK — The advanced age of the workers is the main reason why the St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Hall in Kamsack is being offered for sale.
“Some of the workers are in their 90s, many are in their 80s, and the younger ones are in their 70s,” said Larry Perpeluk, chair of the parish committee.
“We have been having fewer and fewer workers,” Perpeluk said. “The money comes in but few are left to work, so the workload for the remainder becomes heavier and heavier.
“The age of the workers is 95 per cent of the reason why the committee decided to sell the hall,” he said.
The building was listed on Friday (Sept. 26) and someone came to look at the building on Tuesday and others have been talking, he said. It is very reasonably priced.
“We didn’t want to see it sold, but the workers are tired,” he said, explaining that it had been at the annual general meeting in February that the committee agreed to have the building sold, but it had been put off until a couple weeks ago when it was agreed to go ahead with the sale.
Ideally, the committee would want the new owner to keep the facility as a hall that could accommodate large events and ideally the committee would agree to participate in hosting those events, he said.
Constructed in 1956, the hall, located at 114 West Avenue, is a versatile commercial building located in the heart of Kamsack, says information on the real estate page overseen by Nicole (Nikki) Puterbaugh, the associate broker.
“Centrally located in the welcoming community of Kamsack, this solid and well-maintained commercial building offers 5,676 square feet of flexible space, perfect for a wide variety of uses,” the information says. Currently functioning as a church and community hall, the property is well-suited for gatherings, events, meetings, or can be reimagined for another business venture.
The centerpiece of the building is a spacious hall area, ideal for large groups, complete with a convenient bar area at the back that includes a Pepsi cooler and deep freezer. A fully equipped commercial kitchen is ready to support events of any scale, featuring a gas range, ovens, abundant prep space, and a walk-in cooler.
Event tables and chairs are available if desired, making it easy to host functions right away, it says. Additional highlights include: multiple storage spaces and an office; partial basement with furnace and water heater; handicapped-accessible design for convenience, and ample on-site parking on the north side of the building.
“Whether you’re looking to continue its role as a community hub or transform it into a new opportunity, this property offers space, functionality, and a central location that’s hard to beat.”
The asking price is $79,900.
