STURGIS — The importance of organ donation was brought home to many students and adults who attended the Harvest Cabaret in Sturgis on September 26.
Hailey Young of Regina, who is a living donor co-ordinator and a registered nurse, gave a personal presentation that outlined the importance of understanding what it means to be a donor and how to become one.
“There are many people who are going through a medical emergency that requires a transplant of some sort. Signing up is as easy as going to our website. The most important thing is to talk to your family and make your wishes known,” said Young.
Young covered numerous topics in her presentation, including what organs can be transplanted and the awareness surrounding organ donation.
Kim Rose, who had a kidney transplant in 1997, felt strongly about the topic and saw a need in the area to bring education and awareness to the community.
Milkman and Sons concluded the evening by providing music for the dance.
