SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is rolling out a new system to keep the public informed about emergency service disruptions.
Starting in early November, all emergency service disruptions will be posted publicly on the SHA website.
Updates will occur daily at 4:00 p.m., seven days a week.
“The SHA is committed to providing patients, families and communities with reliable and accurate information about the availability of emergency services, and we acknowledge frustrations from patients and communities about our current reporting process,” said Derek Miller, chief operating officer of the SHA. “These changes will ensure that accurate and reliable information about service availability will be consistently available to the public while our teams work to restore emergency services impacted by temporary disruptions.”
The SHA said temporary disruptions occur as a last resort and can result from staff or physician shortages, unplanned absences, scheduled vacations, or facility or equipment upgrades.
Under the new process, patients will be able to see an alphabetical list of all SHA facilities experiencing disruptions, updated daily at 4:00 p.m. Disruptions will also be shown on the individual Facility & Location pages on the SHA website.
The SHA has also implemented several internal improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and support staff in reporting local service interruptions.
The SHA said it plans to continue improving its system, aiming to provide real-time public updates on emergency service disruptions.
