YORKTON – Funding for the 2026 Canada Summer Jobs program is now open for applications.
Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville Cathay Wagantall said the program continues to provide opportunities for young people while helping employers fill seasonal positions.
However, she noted that demand continues to outweigh available funding.
“In 2025, there were 40 Canada Summer Jobs grant recipients in Yorkton-Melville and many more employers that were approved for funding, but there weren’t enough funds to go around,” Wagantall said. “To provide some context, in Yorkton-Melville in 2025, 122 eligible employers applied for $1.46 million in funding to create 410 jobs. The actual distributed amount was $459,000 to 40 employers, which created 148 jobs; however, most positions were not funded at the fully requested amount.”
The Canada Summer Jobs program provides wage subsidies to help employers hire young people between the ages of 15 and 30.
The program supports not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and private businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees.
Not-for-profit employers can receive up to 100 per cent of the provincial minimum hourly wage, while public and private sector employers are eligible for up to 50 per cent of that rate.
The 2026 placements will run from as early as April 20 to no later than August 29, with each job lasting between six and 16 weeks at 30 to 40 hours per week.
The application period closes December 11.
An applicant guide outlining eligibility, assessment criteria and other details is available on the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs webpage at www.canada.ca/canada-summer-jobs.
