CANORA – The first annual “Harvest of Spooks & Stuff Pageant & Trade Show” took place at the Legion Dugout in Canora on Oct. 25.
Organizer Jacqueline Fetchuk said it seemed like the timing was right for this event, getting everyone in the mood with Halloween just around the corner.
“There were no trade shows going on for Halloween in Canora,” said Fetchuk “We were also doing a fundraiser for Majestic Raptor Rehab, owned by Wally and Mary Huebert of Canora.”
Keeping in mind that it was a new event, she said the day went very well.
“It was fun, we met new people, both kids and adults seemed to enjoy the air brush body painting.”
Sheldon Cybak of Canora was the artist doing the body painting which was sponsored by Better Than Before, making it free for anyone who came through the door and was looking for unique ways to get creative.
“Plus, the kids were dressed up for Halloween, and got treats from the vendors and from Better Than Before,” said Fetchuk
The People’s Choice award for best costume went to nine-year-old Mikayla Didychuk, dressed up as Wednesday from The Adams Family. Everyone who came through the door was encouraged to place their vote for the most deserving candidate.
Fetchuk said she appreciated the assistance from Elly Carlson and Millie Zeiler in helping with the behind the scenes organizing responsibilities.
A total of 10 vendors took part in the event, which pretty much filled up the Legion Dugout.
The feedback from participants and visitors was almost completely positive, with one exception.
“Overall the feedback was really good,” said Fetchuk. “The only real complaint was that it wasn’t advertised enough. So for next year’s event we’re planning to do more advertising, book a bigger venue, and get more vendors.”
