The Melville Millionaires made it two wins in a row Friday night, edging the Bunge Division-leading Weyburn Red Wings 2–1 in overtime on the road.
Captain Boston Harkness played the hero, scoring the game-winner 3:27 into overtime—just minutes after he had left the penalty box, where Lucas Schmid had tied the game for Weyburn on a late power play with 1:59 remaining in regulation.
Earlier in the third, Rylan Oatman broke a scoreless deadlock with his fifth of the season.
Fuzz Aafedt stood tall between the pipes for Melville, stopping 32 of 33 shots to earn his second straight win. At the other end, Preston Patenaude made 16 saves on 18 shots in the overtime loss.
The teams will face off again Saturday night in Melville at 7:00 p.m. at the CN Community Centre.
In other SJHL action, the Yorkton Terriers fell 4–1 to the Battlefords North Stars, dropping to 1–2 on their northern road swing.
North Stars captain Anthony Campbell led the charge with two power play goals and an assist as Battlefords built a 3–0 lead after two periods. Carter Geysen and Josh Knittig also found the net, while Ryder McDonald scored his first SJHL goal for Yorkton.
Steele Bass made 32 saves in the win, while Callum Creig turned aside 28 shots in the loss—his second straight defeat. The teams meet again Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre.
Meanwhile, Avery Johnson recorded a hat trick and an assist to lead the Kindersley Klippers to a 9–4 win over the Warman Wolverines.
The teams were deadlocked 4–4 after the opening period before Kindersley erupted for five unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes. Cam Perlinger, Rylan Wieler, and Brock Evans each added a goal and two assists in the victory.
The rematch goes Saturday night in Kindersley.
