The Swan Valley Stampeders celebrated their first-ever Amara’s Amigos Hockey Fights Cancer Night in style, skating to a 6-4 victory over the Winnipeg Blues on home ice.
The Stamps came out flying in the opening frame, with Trace Langan banging in the game’s first goal during a scramble in front. Winnipeg’s Campbell Epp quickly tied it, but Swan Valley regained the lead on a power-play marker from Gavin Bartha, who fired a wrister through traffic. The Blues responded again late in the period, as Aiden McDonald netted his first of the year to make it 2-2 after 20 minutes.
The second period mirrored the first — Bartha struck early for his second of the night, only for Epp to equalize once more. Bennett Muller then gave Swan Valley a 4-3 edge, but Eli Fox answered for the Blues to send the teams into the third tied 4-4.
In the final frame, the Stampeders found another gear. Riley Fequet scored the eventual game-winner on a slick two-on-one with Ethan MacTavish, and Langan added his second of the night into an empty net to secure the win.
Sam Bastien turned aside 32 of 36 shots to earn the victory.
Up next, the Stampeders hit the road to face the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Wednesday, November 12th, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
