Growing up as an only child, I never had to worry about a sibling “borrowing” my stuff without asking. Maybe that’s why I’ve always been a little extra when it comes to people taking things that aren’t theirs. But honestly, from what I’ve seen, even my friends with siblings don’t love it when their stuff mysteriously disappears!
That said, nothing quite prepared me for the turn of events at the office vending machine. As the person in charge of the vending machine, I take pride in making sure everything’s running smoothly. So when Reader accidentally got a three-year-old can of Diet Canada Dry from the machine, he did the right thing and reached out to me. I refunded his dollar and left the can on my desk. My plan? Pop it back into the machine on my next shift to keep the rotation fresh and fair for everyone. This all happened during my couple days off, so I fully planned on taking care of it when I got back. I mean, I’d written a very clear “DON’T DRINK” on the can in big, bold Sharpie…what could possibly go wrong? Enter Danny and Tonya.

Apparently, a can with “DON’T DRINK” written all over it is just too tempting to ignore. When I got back, I found out they’d drunk the forbidden soda! Sure, it was three years old and I never planned on drinking it, but that wasn’t the point. The whole vending machine system was thrown off, and the hard working spacer can cannot go back into the machine, thanks to Tonya Cherry and Danny Ismond.
Now, I’m left wondering: Should I get even, or should I just let it go? Find out below.
