CANORA – Adam Herold learned at a young age that off-ice training is an important part of being a successful hockey player, and it also promotes good health for life off the ice.
Dan Yaskowich has many years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach, including working with Adam and his teammates for four seasons.
Yaskowich said the off-ice training sessions in Canora during the Adam Herold weekend was mainly to give the youngsters an introduction to the training methods that will help them get into good physical condition for hockey, but will also help them stay healthy off the ice.
He encouraged them to develop their own training programs at home, even if they don’t have the same equipment that was used during the Adam Herold weekend.
For instance, if they don’t have the same kind of ladder, they could find other ways to make boxes where they can create different patterns and work on their footwork.
Any kind of ball-like item weighing around five or 10 pounds could be used for working on strength and flexibility.
