Jack Greenwell scored the winner just 1:37 into overtime as the Steinbach Pistons edged the Swan Valley Stampeders 4–3 on Friday night.
All six regulation goals came in a wild first period. Eric Han opened the scoring only 2:29 in, slipping a shot five-hole on Easton Falls to give Steinbach the early lead.
Swan Valley answered with back-to-back power-play goals just 1:15 apart, as Trace Langan and Darren Hunt put the Stampeders ahead 2–1. The Pistons responded quickly when Evan Gradt buried one to make it 2–2.
The Stampeders regained the lead on their third power-play marker of the period, courtesy of Gavin Bartha, but Steinbach pulled even once more when Marek Miller scored in the final minute to send the game to the first intermission tied 3–3.
Despite plenty of chances, the second and third periods remained scoreless. In overtime, Swan Valley’s Crosby Harrison nearly ended it on a partial break, but Pistons goaltender Easton Theveldt shut the door. Moments later, Jack Greenwell broke in alone and fired a shot over the left shoulder of Falls to secure the victory for Steinbach.
Theveldt stopped 25 of 28 shots for his fifth straight win, while Swan Valley’s Easton Falls was outstanding at the other end, turning aside 50 of 54.
The Stampeders continue their road trip Saturday in Winkler, while the Pistons head to Winnipeg to face the Monarchs.
