RAMA – Our fallen heroes were remembered and honored on Nov. 11 with a service at The Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Rama.
Flagman Joe Kowalyshyn read the names on the cenotaph and acknowledged other heroes who dedicated their lives in battle for our country and our freedom. Following a period of silence, the following placed wreaths:
- Phillip Shewchuk (representing Canora-Pelly MLA Sean Wilson on behalf of the Province of Saskatchewan)
- Louis Swiderski (honored the war veterans who did not return, one being his uncle, Louis Swiderski)
- Donna Pasloski (Village of Rama)
- Elaine Olson (St. Anthony's Parish)
- Roger Genoway (RM of Invermay)
- Christine Dyky (Rama Golden Jets)
The Lord's Prayer and the hymn Amazing Grace concluded the service and all were invited for a hot lunch at the Rama Golden Jets Centre.
Prior to lunch, In Flanders Field was played with Stompin’ Tom Connors singing, thanks to Roger Genoway.
Also, a poster made by Teo Yaworski was shared with a copy of an original letter written by Adolf Yaworski to his parents just seven days before he was reported missing. Teo included a copy of the telegram that was sent to Jacob Yaworski that reported the missing of his son on March 25, 1944. Teo also sketched his great, great uncle Adolf Yaworski on the same poster.
Eight-year-old Max Dubas, along with his Mom, Jamie, read a very touching poem that Max had composed at school.
Thank yous to all were expressed including the club members who served and brought the lunch.
