KAMSACK — Bylaws, fees and the regional EMO meetings were among items to concern Kamsack town council at its regular meeting of Nov. 10.
Council spent a good amount of time discussing several bylaws that govern the use of ATVs, snowmobiles, golf carts, electric scooters and bikes and fees, Mayor Beth Dix said.
Although these bylaws are yet to be adopted, council agreed to several fee changes, Dix said. It was agreed that a bonspiel rate for curlers will be set at $40 per sheet per hour; the deposit fee for the use of the OCC Hall was increased from $400 to $500, and the full-day rental of the facility was reduced from $750 to $500, and the half-day rental was reduced from $325 to $250.
This fee reduction was made as a way of encouraging usage of the facility, she said. Since August 2024, the building has been occupied by the daycare program.
Council agreed that fees for the Kamsack Handibus, which to date were governed by a policy, will be included in the fees bylaw.
Following a regional Emergency Measures Organization meeting held in Canora last month, council members discussed the situation and agreed they favoured a regional EMO plan, she said. Members will attend a second meeting where they will advocate for such a plan.
Dix said council has purchased a new AED (automated external defibrillator) and plans to purchase another one in the spring. It was also agreed to purchase new batteries for the four remaining units already in public buildings in the community, which will extend their lives for another two years.
Told that the owner of Howler Custom Cycle at the intersection of Queen Elizabeth Boulevard and Dixon Avenue has been maintaining a town-owned lot that exists between the building and Dixon, council agreed to sell the lot to the owner and have it consolidated with the other property.
Council authorized the 2026 graduating class of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute to erect flags on the light standards along Main Street before the graduation ceremonies in June.
Cameron Markel, an employee of the Kamsack public works department, was approved as a member of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department.
