CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 43 calls from Nov. 20 to Nov. 27, some of which included:
- two abandoned vehicles,
- one assault,
- one assault on a police officer,
- one assault with a weapon,
- two breaches of peace,
- one break and enter,
- five false alarms,
- two Firearms Act calls,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- one fraud,
- one harassing communications,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- one municipal bylaw,
- four other provincial offences,
- one person reported missing,
- one taking a motor vehicle without consent,
- four traffic collisions,
- nine traffic offenses and
- one uttering threats.
Injured woman assaults police officer
On Nov. 21, an intoxicated woman knocked on the door of the Canora RCMP Detachment with visible injuries. Police investigated and determined the woman had fallen at a nearby residence. EMS was contacted. While enroute to the hospital the woman tried to jump out of the moving ambulance. The woman was returned to the detachment and arrested, where she resisted arrest and tried to punch a police officer. A 48-year-old woman was Canora was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and is scheduled to appear in Canora Provincial Court.
Unsafe passing causes collision
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Nov. 24 to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and semi truck on Highway 9 south of Canora. Police attended the scene and determined the driver of a Nissan SUV attempted to pass a semi when it was unsafe to do so. The Nissan struck the front end of the semi truck causing damage to both vehicles. The drivers of both vehicles were not hurt. The investigation is ongoing.
Assault by man and his dog
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to disturbance in Canora on Nov. 24. Police attended the residence and learned that a woman was assaulted. When a neighbour came to the home to assist the woman he was also assaulted and bitten by the suspect’s dog. A warrant of arrest has been issued for a 34-year-old man for assault and assault while choking. Investigation is ongoing.
Assaulted while online
On Nov. 25, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Canora for an assault. The caller reported being on a Facetime call with their daughter when a woman walked up to the victim and assaulted them. Police attended the home and arrested the woman on scene. A 36-year-old woman from Canora was charged with assault and released on an undertaking to have to no contact with the victim.
Seeing and hearing things?
The Canora RCMP were called to a residence in Canora on Nov. 25 for a suspicious person. The caller reported seeing shadows outside and that someone was tapping on the window. Police attended the residence and determined there had been nobody outside the home.
