Canada West dropped its second game at the World Junior A Challenge, falling 4–3 in a shootout to Canada East Monday night in Trois-Rivières.
Despite heavily outshooting their opponents, Canada West couldn’t solve East goaltender Maksim Corovic, who stopped 42 of 45 shots.
Saskatoon’s Rylan Hue of the Humboldt Broncos and Ethan Stewart scored in the first period, sending the teams into the intermission tied 2–2.
Canada East moved ahead early in the second before Brody Green forced overtime with the equalizer in the final minute of regulation.
Three of four Canada East shooters scored in the five-round shootout, while West was denied on all three of its attempts.
Lumsden’s Luke McKechnie made 25 saves for Canada West in the loss.
Both teams are off Tuesday before closing out the round robin on Wednesday — Canada East faces Sweden, while Canada West meets the U.S. in the late game.
