When I walked into the GX94 studio this morning, I definitely wasn’t expecting to stumble upon a piece of history — but there it was. Sitting on the desk like it had been waiting patiently for decades was a time capsule. A real one. Sealed on December 23rd, 1999, and marked to be opened on December 23rd, 2025.
I have no idea what’s inside, but now my curiosity is in overdrive.
Just seeing that date took me right back. In 1999, I was in Grade 12, wondering what on earth was going to happen when the clock struck midnight on December 31st. Y2K had everyone convinced computers would stop, lights would flicker out, and maybe even toasters would rebel — who knew? Thankfully, none of that happened. We all woke up on January 1st, 2000 just fine… a little relieved, and maybe a little embarrassed for believing the hype. But hey, it was a moment in time.
And speaking of moments in time, that’s exactly what this capsule is. A snapshot of GX94 — and the world — as it was 26 years ago. What did our staff think was important enough to seal away? Photos? Old station swag? Predictions for the year 2025? Maybe someone stuffed in a floppy disk just to confuse the future.
Whatever it is, we’ve got just two weeks to wait before we crack it open and find out.
I can’t wait to see what surprises 1999 left for us.
@gx94radio Look what showed up in the GX94 studio overnight. I wonder what’s in it? -Danny #fyp #timecapsule #1999 #2025 #treasure
