YORKTON – The Water Security Agency (WSA) is continuing major upgrades to the spillway at
Theodore Dam over the winter.
It includes repairing the concrete spillway, replacing drainage piping beneath the spillway and adding rip rap around the spillway entrance. This project follows work in previous years to repair and upgrade the low-level riparian outlet.
As part of the project, WSA has lowered the reservoir 1.5 metres to allow for the installation of a temporary cofferdam. Because of this, WSA is working to protect fish over the winter by installing aeration systems, which provide additional oxygen in the shallower part of the lake. These aeration systems will result in areas of thin ice or open water on the lake.
“We know this is a popular location for snowmobiling, ice fishing and other winter activities,” WSA President Shawn Jaques said.
“If people choose to go onto the lake this winter, we urge them to take caution and watch for markers.”
