KAMSACK — Members of the Heart and Home Quilting Club in Kamsack donated another 20 quilts to the Kamsack and District Nursing Home on Dec. 4.
With this donation, and 20 that were donated in April, it means that two-thirds of the quilts promised to the nursing home have been donated, said Lise Rochefort, a representative of the club.
“That leaves 20 more to go. We had a lot of fun making the donation this time,” Rochefort said, explaining that as the quilts were delivered, several residents decided to select the one they preferred.
“One of the residents said that she liked the blue one, and that’s the one she received,” she said. “We had fun. Many of the residents held onto the quilts they had selected.”
Tags with names are to be placed onto the quilts, and although the quilts belong to the nursing home, residents keep their preferred quilts, she said, adding that the first batch of 20 quilts laundered well.
All members of the quilting club participated in the creation of the quilts, she said. Credit must go to club member Linda Scobie, who used her long-arm quilting machine to complete the quilts.
The last batch of about 20 quilts will be provided by the time “the roof is fixed,” and the nursing home will have about 60 residents living there.
Attending the presentation of the quilts with Rochefort were club members Bobbi Wanner, Barb Ginter and Olga Kiwaluk.
The quilters, who meet Wednesday afternoons at Westminster Memorial United Church, donated about 300 items this year, Rochefort said. In addition to the 40 quilts to the nursing home, they have donated quilts to Victoria’s Quilts for cancer patients, quilts for babies for the Kamsack Resource Centre and to Cote First Nation, adult bibs, bags, place mats and table runners.
