Canada West booked its spot in the gold medal game at the 2025 Junior A World Challenge with a 2–0 semifinal win over Canada East Friday afternoon at Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières.
The opening period was scoreless before Canada West struck early in the second, as Thomas Ries from the Yorkton Terriers scored short-handed with Raphael Messier picking up the assist. The West maintained control throughout the third period, and with Canada East’s goalie pulled, Messier sealed the win with a power-play empty-net goal late in regulation.
Warman Wolverine netminder Taye Timmerman and Lumsden product Luke McKechnie combined for the shutout in goal for Canada West, turning aside all 26 shots, while Canada East netminder Kale Osipenko finished with 18 saves in the loss.
Canada West will now play either Sweden or USA for Gold on Saturday night as they’ll meet in the late Semi-Final on Friday.
