CANORA – In the first of two female hockey games in Canora on Dec. 13, the U18A Parkland Prairie Ice hosted the Carlyle Wildcats.
Prior to the game, Reba Monich of Canora, a member of the U9 Canora Cobras, had the honour of skating with the Ice during the warmup.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the first period, but the Ice tied things up on a point shot by Mackena Kriger of Springside that found the back of the net. Credited with assists were Moran Olson of Sturgis and Khloe Whitehawk of Cote First Nation. Carlyle bounced back to take a 2-1 lead before the first intermission.
In the middle period, the Ice tied the game once again on a goal by Tahlia Keshane of Cote First Nation, assisted by Elli Vogel of Theodore and Isobella Marsh of Kamsack. Unfortunately, that would prove to be the last offence of the game for the Ice. The Wildcats responded with two goals before the second intermission to take a 4-2 lead. There was no scoring in the third period.
Ty Northrop of Norquay made numerous difficult saves in goal for the Ice to keep the score close.
The next home game for the Parkland Prairie Ice is on Jan. 4 against the visiting Milestone Flyers.
