Day two at the Saskatchewan men’s and women’s provincial curling championships featured a full schedule of draws, tight finishes, and a clearer picture emerging at the top of both leaderboards.
Men’s play opened Tuesday morning with unbeaten teams setting the tone. Defending champion Rylan Kleiter stayed perfect, edging Langenburg’s Tyler Hartung 7–6 to move to 2–0. Regina’s Kelly Knapp also remained unbeaten with a 10–6 win over Swift Current’s Steve Laycock.
Josh Bryden picked up his first win of the event, evening his record at 1–1 with a 10–6 victory over Fox Valley’s Carl deConinck Smith. Saskatoon’s Bradley Moser stayed undefeated as well, scoring a 7–6 extra-end win over Dustin Kalthoff.
The women took to the ice at noon for Draw 3. Two-time provincial champion Penny Barker improved to 2–0 with a 10–6 win over Regina’s Sara Miller, while Martensville’s Ashley Thevenot stayed unbeaten with a 7–4 victory over Jana Tisdale. Jolene Campbell rebounded to even her record at 1–1 with a 10–6 win over Jenna Enge. The tightest finish saw Sherrilee Orsted score three in the ninth end and steal in the tenth to escape with a 9–8 win over Mandy Silzer.
Men’s action resumed at 4 p.m. Knapp improved to 3–0 with a 9–5 win over deConinck Smith, while Kleiter stayed flawless with an 8–3 victory over Bryden. Laycock bounced back with a 6–2 win over Moser, and Hartung defeated Michael Carss 8–3.
After three draws, Knapp and Kleiter lead the men at 3–0. Moser sits at 2–1, Kalthoff at 1–1, Laycock and Bryden are 1–2, deConinck Smith is 0–3, and Carss is 0–2.
Men’s Draw 4 gets underway Wednesday at 9 a.m., highlighted by an undefeated matchup between Kelly Knapp and Rylan Kleiter.
The day concluded with the women’s fourth draw Tuesday night. Tisdale edged Enge 9–8 in an extra end, while Campbell rolled to a 9–2 win over Orsted. Silzer staged a late comeback, stealing in the ninth and tenth ends to upset defending champion Nancy Martin 6–5. Ashley Thevenot capped the draw with a 7–6 win over Miller.
Through four draws, Thevenot leads the women at 4–0, followed by Barker at 3–0 and Campbell at 3–1. Miller and Tisdale are both 2–2, Orsted and Silzer sit at 1–3, Martin is 0–3, and Enge remains winless at 0–4.
Women’s Draw 5 begins Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
