CANORA — Majestic Raptor Rehab Centre Inc. of Canora is a non-profit, charitable status organization that operates on no regular funding.
I would like to thank those who have chipped in on our Go Fund Me Page and helped where they could financially but, we need more. One of our local businesses, Better Than Before, has ceased to operate after helping us over the past two years that we have been licensed.
Raptors are an expensive bird to rehabilitate as their dietary needs are very specific. We need to purchase mice specifically that are healthy and do not pose a contamination risk to the birds. Currently we are spending approximately $2,000 per month as we are housing 10 raptors until spring weather arrives. At this time they will be tested with live prey to ensure they are fit to release back to the habitats from which they originated.
Shorty came to us from the Carlyle area and was found caught in a barbed wire fence with serious injuries. Shorty is a short-eared owl.
Annie, a great horned owl, was struck by a vehicle and comes from the Rosthern area. Gibbs is a young bald eagle found near Whitewood with a wing fracture which was repaired surgically.
Other injured birds in our care include: a bald eagle, three red tail hawks, one Swainson Hawk, one ferruginous hawk and two merlins.
We work collaboratively with other rehabilitators to save these animals for return to freedom.
Better Than Before was an excellent way for people to drop off unwanted items for someone else to purchase. We are not looking at selling items but our main fundraising is collecting second hand clothing, bedding, towels, footwear that can still be used and small household items of any type. Everything is sorted for damages, packaged and is used for our Fun Drives which also in turn supports diabetes.
This is a great way to donate without having to put money out. If you are winter cleaning, spring cleaning, any type of cleaning, please feel free to bag and/or box your items and drop them on the front porch at 108 Daniels Drive, Majestic Raptor Rehab Inc. to help the wildlife.
It costs nothing but your time and we appreciate everyone’s help in this regard. If needed we can drop by and pick up if it will help individuals who may not have a vehicle. We also have an account at SARCAN for Drop & Go but beverage containers may also be left at our 108 Daniels Drive porch.
Majestic Raptor Rehab and volunteers thank Canora and surrounding areas for all the support you are able to give. Thank you so much for keeping us in mind.
