SASKATCHEWAN — RCMP are warning motorists to avoid travel Friday as winter weather creates hazardous road conditions across central and southern parts of the province.
Saskatchewan RCMP officers are currently at the scene of a multi-vehicle pile-up near the intersection of Highway 46 and Highway 1, southwest of Balgonie. Highway 46 is closed, and RCMP say it’s unclear when it will reopen. Several other. Highways in the Regina region are also closed, and travel isn’t recommended.
RCMP are also responding to a collision on Highway 10, south of the Highway 364 junction near Edgeley.
Police say they are receiving multiple reports of vehicles in the ditch and poor road conditions in the southern parts of the province. Ice, snow-covered lanes, drifting and blowing snow, strong winds, and ongoing road closures are contributing to poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions.
Motorists are urged to check weather and highway conditions before travelling and to consider delaying trips if poor conditions exist or are forecast. Travellers can view real-time information on plowing, sanding, and salting activity at the Highway Hotline.
RCMP are also reminding the public not to call 911 or local detachments for road condition updates. Emergency lines must remain available for life-threatening situations and crimes in progress.
