I’m a little tired this morning — and not because I was out late or doing anything exciting. Nope. This one’s all on my dog.
For some reason, Barkley decided that sleeping through the night was overrated. Almost every hour, he was up and on the move. Chasing toys, chewing on the loudest squeaky ones he could find, and doing his best to wake us up like it was playtime. I’m still not sure what got into him, because he’s usually so good at sleeping all night without making a peep.
Last night was a whole different story. It felt like as soon as I’d fall back asleep, I’d hear that familiar squeak or see him standing there with a toy, ready to go. Of course, he finally settled down and fell asleep just as it was time for me to get up. Perfect timing, right?
As frustrating as it can be in the moment, it’s pretty hard to stay mad when you look at his face. He was clearly living his best life while I was counting hours of lost sleep. I guess that’s part of the deal when you have a dog — they keep things interesting, even in the middle of the night.
I’m hoping to sneak in a nap this afternoon to kick off the weekend properly. Until then, energy drinks will be my best friend today… and I’m sure my dog will be snoozing peacefully like nothing ever happened.
