The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ off-season moves continued on Wednesday morning as the green and white announced they had released pending free-agent receiver Shawn Bane Jr.
Bane arrived in Riderville three years ago and quickly became a favourite target in the Green and White offence. Over 36 games, the 29-year-old hauled in 146 receptions for 1,713 yards and nine touchdowns, highlighted by his breakout 2023 campaign when he topped the 1,000-yard mark with 93 catches for 1,104 yards.
His momentum stalled late in the 2024 season when he suffered a torn ACL during a Week 17 matchup against the Ottawa Redblacks on September 28. The injury forced him to miss the opening stretch of the 2025 season while recovering from knee and leg complications.
Wednesday’s move provides Bane Jr. an early chance to explore opportunities around the league.
In a release, the Roughriders thanked Bane for his contributions during his time in Saskatchewan.
As the calendar inches closer to the CFL’s negotiation window, this release marks another step in what promises to be a busy few weeks for the Roughriders.
