The Swan Valley Stampeders delivered one of their strongest overall efforts of the season Friday night, but couldn’t solve the league leaders, falling 2-0 on home ice to the Niverville Nighthawks on Hockey is Everyone Night in Swan River.
After a scoreless opening period, Parker Carrier broke the deadlock at 5:29 of the second, slipping a long point shot through the glove of Stamps netminder Easton Falls to make it 1-0.
Swan Valley generated plenty of opportunities — including five powerplay chances — but couldn’t capitalize.
Merik Boles sealed it late in regulation, taking advantage of a Stampeders turnover to extend the lead to 2-0 with just over two minutes remaining.
Austin Dubinsky was perfect in goal for Niverville, stopping all 30 shots to record his league-leading 29th win of the season. Falls made 27 saves in the loss.
The Stampeders return to action Saturday night when they host the Steinbach Pistons. The Nighthawks head north to face the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in The Pas.
Elsewhere in the MJHL Friday:
- Portage Terriers 7, Selkirk Steelers 3
- Steinbach Pistons 9, Northern Manitoba Blizzard 1
