Margolis cashes in for Mils in home ice victory
The Melville Millionaires edged closer in the SJHL playoff race Tuesday night, holding on for a 5-4 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Kale Margolis scored twice to pace the Mils, with Boston Harkness, Matty Edwards and Preston Baerwald also finding the net as Melville secured just its ninth home win of the season. Matthew Spencer-Dahl made 21 saves for the victory.
Justin Bereniuk, Jaxen Smyth, Grayden Perozni and Brock Inglis responded for La Ronge, who dropped their ninth straight.
Melville now sits seventh in the SJHL, three points ahead of Kindersley with three games in hand. The teams meet again Friday in Melville, while the Ice Wolves travel to face the Yorkton Terriers on Wednesday night.
Defending champs make it nine straight
The defending champion Melfort Mustangs stretched their winning streak to nine games Tuesday night with a 4-2 home victory over the Weyburn Red Wings.
Nolan Patterson scored twice for Melfort, while Luke McKenzie and Tristin Ziola each chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Goaltender Kason Kobelka turned aside 25 shots, earning his sixth consecutive win and improving to 10 victories in his last 11 starts.
Will Munro and Josh Karman replied for Weyburn, who remain three points back of Yorkton for top spot in the Bunge Division, having played three more games.
Bombers extend home streak to 23
The Flin Flon Bombers made it 23 straight wins on home ice with a 4-2 victory over the Nipawin Hawks at the Whitney Forum.
Leo Seitz scored late in the first period, and it stood as the game-winner. Pierce Yakimchuk and Connor Miller also struck in the opening frame, while Joey Lies added insurance in the third.
Braeden Jockims and Eric Hoiness replied for Nipawin.
Charlie Tritt stopped 27 shots to earn his 20th win of the season.
