I love a nice drive, especially this time of year. There’s something about the open road, big prairie skies, and the changing seasons that just clears the mind. Last week I made the trip to Willow Bunch, and as always, it did not disappoint.
It was a beautiful drive there and back. The scenery alone is worth the trip — rolling hills, wide open stretches, and that peaceful feeling you only get when you’re out on the highway with nowhere to be but where you’re headed. I really appreciate taking in all there is to see along the way. Sometimes we get so focused on the destination that we forget to enjoy the view getting there.
That said, this time of year you definitely have to keep your head on a swivel.
I noticed quite a bit of wildlife out and about. On one trip I saw coyotes, a fox, antelope, a moose, and several deer. It’s amazing how active they are, and how quickly they can appear near the road. One minute you’re admiring the landscape, and the next you’re tapping the brakes because something is moving in the ditch.
It was a good reminder to always keep your eyes peeled while driving, especially on those scenic highways where wildlife blends right into the surroundings. The beauty of rural Saskatchewan and Manitoba is second to none — but it comes with a little extra responsibility behind the wheel.
In the end, it made the drive even more memorable. Great views, fresh air, and a few unexpected wildlife sightings. Just another reason I’ll always love a good road trip — as long as I stay alert and ready for whatever might step onto the road next.
