The latest SJHL power rankings are out — and there’s plenty of movement and momentum across the league.
At number one, the Flin Flon Bombers continue to prove why they’re the team to beat. Two hard-fought wins over Melville this past weekend didn’t come easy, but the bounces keep going their way. Tuesday night, they made it 23 straight home wins at the Whitney Forum with a victory over Nipawin.
Sitting second, the Yorkton Terriers bounced back nicely from the end of their lengthy win streak with a pair of wins over Humboldt and a OT win Wednesday over La Ronge. With a home-heavy schedule the rest of the way and Callum Creig playing outstanding hockey in net, things are trending upward at Westland Arena.
In third, the Battlefords North Stars continue to set the standard in the Nutrien Division, having already clinched another division title. Despite a recent stumble against Estevan, they’ve won four of five and remain firmly in the contender conversation.
Fourth are the Nipawin Hawks, who responded to a rare road hiccup with three straight wins and 18 goals last week before falling in Flin Flon Tuesday.
The Weyburn Red Wings sit fifth after an up-and-down February. Goaltending consistency remains key as they try to lock down home ice in Round One.
At six, the defending champion Melfort Mustangs are red hot. They won their ninth straight Tuesday night with a 4-2 victory over Weyburn. Bo Eisner continues to anchor the blue line, and Dru Mushumanski has found another gear offensively.
Seventh belongs to the Melville Millionaires, who rebounded Tuesday with a 5-4 home win over La Ronge. With more games in hand than anyone in the league, the Mils remain very much in the playoff hunt and are buying into Doug Johnson’s system.
The Estevan Bruins are eighth after a key road win in Battlefords. Ewan Rennie’s health is a major boost as they prepare for a crucial stretch run.
Ninth are the youthful Humboldt Broncos, still hanging around the playoff line despite a brutal February schedule.
The Kindersley Klippers are tenth, just one point back of a playoff spot but with the fewest games remaining — meaning there’s little margin for error.
Eleventh are the Warman Wolverines, who continue to show growth and picked up a notable win over Estevan.
And rounding out the rankings, the La Ronge Ice Wolves, who are navigating change behind the bench and looking to close the season strong with four of their final five at home.
