Earlier this month, we said goodbye to a beloved TV icon, Eric Dane. From the unforgettable Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy to the intense Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, Eric brought his full passion and charisma to every role, capturing the hearts of fans everywhere. Less than a year ago, he bravely shared his ALS diagnosis, and while an outpouring of support followed, no one could have imagined that just 10 months later he would leave us. His talent and warmth made a lasting impression that goes beyond the screen.
Before his passing, Eric filmed a very special interview with Netflix called Famous Last Words: Eric Dane. In this honest and sometimes emotional conversation, he opened up about his childhood, battled with addiction, and reflected on his life’s ups and downs. The interview, recorded before his death but released after, truly lets us see Eric’s strength, humour, and vulnerability. If you’re a fan or just curious to learn more about him, this is a must-watch.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a difficult disease affecting more than 200,000 people worldwide, including about 4,000 Canadians, according to the ALS Society of Canada. While there’s still so much to learn, researchers are working hard to understand what causes ALS and how to fight it. Eric Dane’s openness helped shine a light on the disease and inspired many to support ongoing research and care. His legacy is not just in his roles, but in the hope and awareness he brought to so many.
