CANORA – The Assiniboine River Archery Club now has its own facility in Canora, located at 116 Main Street in the former home of ” Better Than Before” second hand store.
Desiree Owchar, club president, said they took possession of their new home on Jan. 1, 2026, and had their first shoot night on Jan. 20.
This comes after the club had been shooting in the Canora Composite School gymnasium for several years.
“We are very excited to have our own facility,” said Owchar. “We still have our regular J.O.P. (Junior Olympic Program) practices on Tuesday evenings. It’s a program where kids have to shoot a certain score twice from different distances and they earn badges. There are five badges at the 10-metre distance, four badges at the 15-metre distance and 22 badges at the 18-metre distance.”
With their own facility, club members now have access to shoot anytime, any day of the week. “We will be opening up general registration to adults and kids in the fall,” continued Owchar. “This facility gives us the ability to host different types of archery events that welcome archery clubs from all over. We also plan to have some different fundraising events once we are more set up.”
