YORKTON — SaskAbilities hopes to see a strong turnout for Snowarama in Yorkton on March 7.
The 49th annual snowmobile rally raises funds for individuals with disabilities in Saskatchewan. A press release states the event combines community, winter spirit and fun, all to raise funds for three valuable programs.
Activities kick off March 6 at 7 p.m. with registration and a beer and wings night at the Sask Abilities building at 162 Ball Road.
Then on March 7, breakfast will be served and registration will continue at the Sask Abilities building. The ride will begin at 10 a.m.
From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., there will be a complimentary lunch for riders at the Good Spirit Recreation Hall.
Focus will shift to the St. Mary’s Cultural Centre in Yorkton in the evening. It will open at 5 p.m. for cocktails. A banquet and awards program will happen at 6:30 p.m., a live auction starts at 9 p.m. and a celebration and socializing will be at 10:30 p.m.
More than $294,000 was raised at Snowarama in 2025.
Funds raised through Snowarama support three core programs: Camp Easter Seal, Summer Fun and Adaptive Technology Services.
According to SaskAbilities, Camp Easter Seal is the only fully wheelchair-accessible overnight camping facility in Saskatchewan. Each summer, more than 600 children, youth and adults with disabilities attend the camp. From accessible walkways and docks to yurts and an amphitheatre, the site is designed to remove barriers and allow campers to fully participate in recreational and social activities.
On average, it costs about $2,500 to send a camper. Through donations, sponsorships and volunteer support, campers attend free of charge.
Summer Fun, an urban day camp operating in four Saskatchewan cities, including Yorkton, runs throughout July and August. The program focuses on inclusion, social skill development and confidence-building, giving children and youth with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy summer activities alongside their peers.
Adaptive technology services works with individuals to increase independence through customized technology solutions. Services range from modified keyboards to communication devices, along with assessments, installation and training.
