Keeping up with my movie resolution, I finally caught up on A Quiet Place Part II and A Quiet Place: Day One! I watched the original a while back but let the sequels slip through the cracks, so this double feature felt long overdue. Part II kicked off with a tense flashback to the first day of the invasion, then jumped right back into the non-stop suspense. Watching the characters scramble for survival was nerve-wracking…baby in a soundproof box, family members split up, and everyone just barely hanging on. With the main characters battered and separated, and the older son struggling with a nasty bear trap injury, the ending left me wondering who might actually make it out alive.
Then I dove into A Quiet Place: Day One, which, as the title hints, is a prequel with a whole new cast. Lupita Nyong’o absolutely shines as Sam, whose only goal is to grab a slice of pizza in New York City when all chaos breaks loose. She teams up with Eric (Joseph Quinn), a stranger just trying to survive the day. Between the high-stakes action, the emotional moments, and Sam’s loyal support cat, Frodo, this prequel brings a fresh look to the series, even without the original cast.
I’m not usually big on horror, but this series has totally won me over. The mix of suspense, clever survival tactics, and heart really pulls you in. If you’re looking for something that’s more than just scary monsters (think intense, emotional, and a little bit hopeful) give these movies a shot. You might be surprised how much you enjoy the ride!
