In hockey, the spotlight usually follows the players. But every game also depends on the officials who keep it fair and moving.
This past week, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League says goodbye to one of its most respected veterans. After 24 seasons, more than 250 regular-season games, and 10 league finals, longtime official Ryan Lundquist is hanging up the whistle.
That kind of career doesn’t happen by accident. Officiating junior hockey means long drives, late nights, and making split-second decisions in front of passionate players and fans. Through it all, Lundquist earned the trust of the league and the respect of those around the game.
But his legacy goes beyond the games he worked. Over the years, he helped mentor young officials coming into the SJHL, sharing experience and guidance that will benefit the league for years to come.
After more than two decades in stripes, Ryan Lundquist leaves behind a career — and an impact — worth saluting.
