CANORA – In front of close to a full house at the Canora Civic Centre on Feb. 28, the U7 Canora Cobras hosted a fun hockey tournament with six teams hitting the ice.
Each team played three games with two going on at a time because games are played on half the normal ice surface. Scores were not kept.
In addition to the host Cobras, the other teams taking part were: Norquay Northstars, Preeceville Pats, Wadena Wildcats and a pair of Yorkton teams, the Fritters and the Iced Capps.
Cobras Coach Dayne Babchishin said, “This tournament was firstly for the kids to enjoy the game of hockey. They were able to showcase their skills they have acquired throughout the season to their families and friends. Having a day dedicated to them is a wonderful experience and feeling for all involved.”
Babchishin described coaching the U7 Cobras as, “a great pleasure and honour.”
His approach to coaching is pretty straightforward, “Firstly, have fun. Second, work hard and third, show sportsmanship by respecting your teammates, the opposition, the coaches and referees.”
The U7 Cobras have had a busy and enjoyable season, including participating in four tournaments, one jamboree and the Adam Herold Legacy Foundation sessions held in Canora.
“We have played many games,” added Babchishin, “and the kids have shown tremendous interest and improved immensely this season.”
