In the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, rivalries are what give the game its heartbeat — and few rivalries mean more than the one down Highway 10.
For the second straight year in the Canterra Seeds Cup Playoffs, the Yorkton Terriers and the Melville Millionaires are ready to meet again.
And if you’ve ever experienced one of these games in person, you know it’s not just another playoff series.
Separated by barely 40 kilometres, these two communities have built one of the most passionate rivalries in junior hockey. The pace is faster, the hits feel heavier, and the noise inside the rink rises with every shift.
This rivalry has always been about more than wins and losses.
It’s about community pride. It’s about generations of players pulling on those jerseys and understanding exactly what the game means to the people in the stands. And it’s about fans who bring the energy that makes these nights unforgettable.
And I’ll be honest — I’m grateful to be part of it.
As someone who gets to call the games and sit in the broadcast booth, I truly get one of the best seats in the house. There’s nothing quite like looking out over a packed rink during a Terriers and Millionaires playoff game and feeling that buzz in the building.
It’s special. And it’s something that deserves to be experienced.
So if you’re anywhere near Yorkton or Melville the next couple weeks, get to the rink. Fill the seats. Grab a 50/50 ticket. Support the volunteers, the players, and the communities that make junior hockey what it is.
Because rivalries like this don’t just happen — they’re built by the people who show up.
And when the puck drops between the Terriers and the Millionaires, the Highway 10 rivalry will once again remind us why the SJHL is one of the best leagues in the country.
