CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 19 calls from March 19 to March 26, some of which included:
- one arson to motor vehicle,
- two assaults,
- one breach of peace,
- two failures to comply with probation order,
- one failure to comply with release order,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- four other provincial statutes,
- one traffic collision,
- three traffic offences, and
- two wellbeing checks.
Assault, vehicle set on fire
On March 19, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in the RM of Preeceville. The female caller reported that she and a man were assaulted by another man. The male victim’s vehicle was also lit on fire. Police attended a residence and arrested the male suspect. A 61-year-old man from Buchanan was charged with assault and arson to a motor vehicle. The man was released from custody on a release order with conditions of no alcohol, a curfew, not to possess firearms, and to not have any contact with the victims. Alcohol was a factor.
Charged for busted curfew
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to Preeceville March 22 for a report that a man was failing to follow their curfew conditions. Police located the man north of Preeceville on Highway 9 and he was taken back to his residence. The 55-year-old from Preeceville was charged with failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with probation order.
Police called for hand gesture
The Canora RCMP investigated a dispute between two men on March 24. It was reported by one of the men that the other man gave him the middle finger in a dangerous manner. Police determined that no crime was committed and provided advice to the reporting man on how to resolve conflict with others.
Threat to self
On March 24, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report that a man had threatened to harm himself. Police located the man at his residence, and he was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. The man was taken to the Yorkton Hospital.
