PREECEVILLE — From young children to seasoned skiers, participants of all ages hit the trails as the Preeceville Nordic Ski Club hosted its annual cross-country ski loppet in March.
According to Cross Country Canada, a loppet is a “great gathering of skiers who ski on a specifically groomed trail, either classic (diagonal stride) or free (skating technique) of various distances, and lots of food and drink are consumed during (and after) the event.”
“Preeceville Loppet had approximately 30 participants at our Loppet,” stated Megan Maier, Nordic Ski Club member. “There were some skiers from Regina, Preeceville, Stenen, Hazel Dell, and Sturgis. Our youngest skiers were four and five years old, and I think our oldest skier was 70 (or possibly older). We are thankful to Ralph Ager for grooming the Preeceville Lions family trails, and they were in great shape for the Loppet. We had nice weather at around -2 C degrees. We are thankful to the Kelsey Ecological Society for joining us and donating hot dogs and some prizes and bringing a nature scavenger hunt for the kids. We had a lot of donated door prizes and delicious muffins, cookies, juice and hot dogs for refreshments. It was a fun afternoon,” concluded Maier.
