A power line construction company has been ordered to pay $70,000 after a worker was seriously injured on the job three years ago.
Hundseth Power Line Construction pleaded guilty in Yorkton Provincial Court March 25 to one violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020.
The conviction stems from an incident on April 16, 2023, near Canora, when an employee was seriously injured while working on a power pole.
The company was formally charged with being an employer and failing to provide the necessary information, instruction, training, and supervision to protect the health and safety of workers, resulting in a serious injury.
The court imposed a $50,000 fine alongside a $20,000 victim surcharge. One additional charge against the company was withdrawn.
The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety said in a release announcing the outcome of the court case that it continues to work with employers and workers to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses through education, intervention, and enforcement.
